Wrongs :AOL- From Kasper to McAfee

AOL decided to replace its antivirus software Active Virus Shield, powered by Kaspersky with McAfee Virus Scan Plus instead…and they call it “Special Edition”.
The new suit is still free and includes a firewall, antivirus and a spyware protection.
So what’s wrong about it?
Users who have been using McAfee over the years know that is not only a difficult program to remove in case you don’t want to use it anymore, but also its antivirus scanning angine is not as good as Kaspersky.
One thing i really hated about McAfee, was the huge amount of CPU resources it was using, and i do not suppose that this has changed.
My recommendation – Try finding something else instead. There are lots of other antivirus, firewalls and anti-spyware freeware that won’t clog your system and slow it down.
Check out the disk space you need for it.

Windows 2000, XP
- 200MB hard disk space – Huh???????

jay ..most than likely must not have many problems with mcafee thats good if it works for him. but when i used mcafee i HATED it. not even a day later i had it unstalled i used revo uninstaller. it sucked and did’t provide me with the protection i needed and look at the ratings on the web (example pcworld) that says it all! go to best buy and look at whats selling and see whats on there shelves. i want something that keeps my machine virus free not what program doesn’t hassle me with inconviences at times. all around it what does the job correctly…

McAfee no longer slows down your computer like old versions. Stick with McAfee.

Well, many people dropped off from using AOL stuff, but this time, they really went a step back.
I use Avast for my Vista. It doesn’t uses many resources and i am very pleased with it so far.

I don’t know why anyone would use anything AOL branded anymore to begin with but at least they were using a decent anti virus. I prefer the free edition of AVG for my anti-virus on Windows XP. I have yet to install any anti-virus on Vista. I plan on switching back to Linux as soon as the first virus starts spreading to Vista. I really don’t like anti-virus because it wastes so many resources to check all of the files and such. Even the good ones slow things down more than I like.

Carol, of course I don’t blame you for this, but Comodo’s Antivirus caused random (so to speak) bluescreens until I uninstalled it. Ran CCleaner, reinstalled, thought I had it and then after a while… bluescreened. And I never get blueescreened by XP otherwise. So off it went.
Sadly my employer provides… McAfee. Whee. For the moment I’ve put ClamAV on this machine.

Random, if you are still on Xp, then i recommend you start using Comodo’s Firewall and Antivirus.
Both very good. Just its firewall isn’t Vista ready.
They know very good the reputation of McAfee and yet, they take this step.
Too bad.

Ugh, this is awful news. I use AOL/Kaspersky on all of my machines, but I guarantee no derivative of McAfee will be touching my machines again. Argh, I hate to have to go back to hunting for something worth using; AOL/Kaspersky has been just great.

I rather use a freeware than McAfee.

McAfee is one almighty pain in the backside,it’s virtually impossible to uninstall unless you know what you are doing in the Registry.
It’s the best thing i’ve ever done listening to you and using freeware anti virus and firewall protection.
