I like Vista, got OEM Ultimate. All those "do you really want to do this" questions can be turned off by disabling User Account Control.

Hi Jesse,

I haven't used Vista yet, so i couldn't agree or disagree with what you just said.

If your wife wants Xp back, then split the partition and install Xp too.
When you boot, you'll have the choice to startup with Vista or Xp.

What i am saying is, it takes a while for all the other companies (software, hardware, drivers...etc) to bring up what is needed to run Vista at it's best.

Until then it will be very frustrating for many users.....

All I can say is DO NOT UPGRADE. I got a free copy with my new laptop (express upgrade) and I honestly hate it. It is intrusive, keeps asking stupid questions like do you really want to install this software, do you really want to run this program you just clicked on, and so on and so forth. For Home Premium, it's the best you can get besides Ultimate, and I can never see myself upgrading any other computer I have to Vista.

Aero isn't worth it, and it is a resource hog. I believe it takes a step backwards in that it assumes everyone who uses the computer is a complete imbecile, and turning off the warnings turns on warnings of its own. The Lexmark printer that used to work flawlessly now has problems even recognizing it, even after downloading Vista specific drivers. I'm even having problems with DEP turning off Windows Messenger Live and it's a WINDOWS PROGRAM that doesn't even work with their own operating system out the box.

If I had paid for it, I'd be pissed. My wife who used to use the laptop 8hr/daily now will not touch it and begs me to put XP MCE back on it, and when it does need a new install of Windows, you can be sure that's what'll be put back on it.

Never mind the money....From what I've heard about Windows Vista's intrusive qualities, I don't understand why anyone would upgrade to it ...I've heard that it's built in risk assessments will automatically delete components it deems risky - whether you want it to or not... and there is concern that it will detect disable and/or remove pirated software and media even of "questionable provenance"... it has built in proprietary HD media decoding software, but it's evidently been crippled so that it will not play HD media at HD resolution; it will deliberately play below it.. apparently at the behest of the companies that are they licensed it from... It's CPU registered, so you can't copy and put it on another computer (not that other sw makers doesn't do that, of course)..too much control on MY computer. Oh, and of course it is a memory hog!
I'm sticking with XP.

I don't see why an OEM version isn't legal if i only want the OS and not another pc.
I have to look into that one.

I thought you could only put an OEM version onto a new computer and is it legal.

Next to your commenters name, there' s the browser they're using AND their national flag!

Too cool, how do you do that?
