I got a tip this evening from my friend Eric about this freeware and i found it so useful and thought i should post it up.

What does it do?

The Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, CIS (Center for Internet Security) benchmarks, and displays the results in your Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server.

I have installed it and run it myself and i was surprised of how much information it actually gives you.

And when they say details they also mean the serial keys from your software such as : Adobe,Office,Nero..Windows and so on….you know, the ones you thought you lost them…

The CIS part is the one that you want to have a good look, and see there if the configuration of your computer passes or fails.

This little freeware is for personal use only.

Enought about it.

Just go to  and download it.

I’ve been using Lavalys Everest for a long time (they recently stopped their freeware version) it’s still a very comprehensive program.

I also use Everest it is a very good product for getting the details of your hardware. This tool is really useful to find more about the OS security issues. Thanks carol for the find.

Great ! The information in the report was pretty impressive, however I didn’t get the CIS benchmark score ! Needs a WinXP Pro !

By the way I am bummer, I have talked to you couple of times on technobytez but never visited your blog !

Hi Carol. I didn’t test this one yet but wanted to warn you about a possible privacy issue that this software may cause. Did you have a chance to run it without any alarms while ZoneAlarm or similar outgoing traffic watcher is running? If not, give it a go. It’s better to be suspicious than sad. :)
A basic free version available: http://www.zonelabs.com/

I run ZoneAlarm Security Suite and yes,i did it without having a warning from Zonealarm.
The files generated with Belarc are not going to any server, that means that you have them locally and only for yourself.
