This year’s best

Ok…we’re at the end of the year and it is time to put up this year’s best…and this is my choice.
The 5 Wordpress plugins in no specific order :
Plugins that make your blogging experience easier.
Firestats - Displays your blog’s stats - one of my favorite, although I would like it to include keywords and maybe the time spent by a visitor. I do like it the way it is though.
SpamKarma - since I’ve installed it, I don’t really know what spam on my blog is anymore. Just be careful with the settings. Chances are you’ll be blocking some of your friends while leaving comments.
SpotMilk Admin theme - Why? Because it looks beautiful and makes my time I spend on the admin more enjoyable.
Snap Preview - It really makes your visitors experience on your web site more easier when you send them to other links by letting them first preview the page they are about to see.
Counterize - Displays your incoming hits. Some of the bar graphs are a bit messy and out of the page … but is well equipped.
The 5 Best Freeware, in this specific order:
1) Advanced WindowsCare Personal- You’ve probably read about it or even use it. It does the job is meant to do and it is very easy to use. Plus, you don’t need to do all that Windows Services tweaking. This freeware does it for you. Highly recommended.
2) RegToy - Everything about this freeware is perfect, starting with the fact that is really small and includes great features, such as file splitting, registry cleaning, tweaking and so many more. (more about it on Freewarefiles.com)
If is perfect, why did I put it on the second place? Well, simply because Advanced Windows Care has 2 features that RegToy doesn’t have and those are: A spyware scan and a security defense (something like Spyware Blaster incorporated).
3)Comodo Firewall - This is a great freeware firewall. One might say that freeware can’t do as best as a software but it isn’t always like that. Just visit their forum for more information.
4)Avast Home edition - There’s nothing much to say about it. It is a good free anti virus. The only “down” about it… scanning your files can take a “while”.
And finally…
5) Iobit SmartDefrag. - If you can’t afford Diskeeper Pro, then SmartDefrag is what you need.
The 5 Best web sites (again…my choice) in no specific order:
DownloadSquad - One of my favorite.
StumbleUpon - everyone should get an account in there. It’s a great place with a great community. And the people of this community will actually read your entries… unlike others.Plus, you get to find anything you need in there.
TechMeme - i discovered not so long ago. This is the place to get your latest technology information.
Listible.com - that’s the place to go if you are looking for goodies, lists, etc.
Goowy.com - e-mail, storage, im, minis,…all in one place.
Well, that’s it for now.
About
Excellent list Carol, I love software gadgets & tweaks & if they’re free its even better!
I’ve picked up a lot from your blog, and look forward to 2007.
Cheers,
Chris.
Wait! The year is not finished yet. I still have some entries to put up.
Wow… thanks Carol
I couldn’t resist Snap Preview, Ajay.
Good list Carol… Must try out the admin theme. Do you think Spam Karma is better than Akismet? Do you use both or one or the other? I think Akismet is excellent btw.
On the subject of spam, I can strongly recommend the Bad Behavior plug-in. 250 odd comments a week blocked & I’ve had no reports of anyone being blocked who shouldn’t.
We would like to inform you that your blog has now been added to the Megite index. We kindly invite you to explore Megite’s latest version at http://www.megite.com
Chris, i’ve only got in total 23 spam comments since i installed my blog. Since i installed the SpamKarma ,maybe 6.
Matthew, thanks for letting me know. It seems like a nice web site.
Installed Spotmilk - what a difference it makes to the admin section… bye bye old clunky wordpress admin page. Hello sleek new look
Downloaded SK2 and will see what it’s like.. With Akismet I hardly get any spam as it is, so SK may be overkill but it can’t hurt and I’ve heard good things about it!
Thanks for these tips.
I forgot to answer your question, Britgirl, I use SpamKarma with Askimet.
