Slimware Drivers Freeware – find and install my drivers

On 11 September, 2011 by Carol

Keeping your computer’s drivers up to date is one of the maintenance steps that one should take to keep the machine up and running, so every 2-3 months I do the maintenance in 4 steps:

1) Windows Update – I only select what is important to install
2) Drivers Update
3) Cleaning up all the junk, uninstall programs i don’t use and clean dead reg keys
4) Deep disk and registry keys defragmentation

The Windows Update, Cleaning and Disk maintenance steps aren’t a problem, it’s just that finding the right software to detect and install my drivers has been quite tricky so far due to the fact that most of the apps i tried only detect the drivers but you have to pay to install what you need.

On the other hand, it’s quite tiring to look up the drivers one needs one by one. It takes way too long.
It took me a while to find this program and not because it’s hard to find, but because it was recently released.

In the past, i used to run DriverMax and i was quite happy with it, until they’ve limited the use of the app. It now takes 3 hours to download and install a couple of drivers – some are broken i must add –  and as always, i am looking for alternatives which aren’t complicated and do the job right.

slimware Slimware Drivers Freeware find and install my driversSlimwareDrivers does just that: it lets you scan your computer for broken or out-of-date drivers and you can then manually install them with the freeware version.
Of course, it would have been great to be able to use the batch install in this version, but i am quite happy with its capabilities.

From the website:

SlimDrivers not only detects when a driver needs updating, but also identifies the proper executable for your system and initiates the driver install automatically. – Note: Individual Driver updates are free. The Plus version called DriverUpdate allows for “Download All” and advanced automation functionality.

When i first ran the app, i found about 36 drivers that needed update.
Before you start updating, backup your drivers and if something goes wrong you can simply restore.
