We can’t vouch for this hack, because we are too lazy to try it (and we never, ever violate copyrights or EULAs), but kind reader Martin explains the process for turning an Windows XP Home install disc to a Windows XP Pro disc after the jump.

It sounds pretty simple to do (just some registry changes), but you can’t install Service Pack 2, so you might try to slipstream in the changes to your modified install disc (if that’s even possible).

Idon’t really understand this, but i’m certain someone mentioned to me that everybody would have to install SP2 because Microsoft were stopping support for SP1,so it defeats the object. Please tell me if i’m wrong.

You’re not wrong.I see you have a geeky side i didn’t really know about.Microsoft will not stop that soon the support for SP1.They’ll wait a little longer.

But in this case is going from Home Edition to Pro Edition of XP.

I’ll print part of the letter i’ve found in a magazine.
Microsoft has advised me that its support for Windows XP Service Pack 1 will expire on October 10th 2006 and i should install the latest version of SP2.
It looks like its going to happen sooner than people thought.,in fact in 5 days time.

Well, everyone has to have by now SP2.
SP1 is just unsafer and there’s too much work to support both packs.
