Paul Thurrott, from WindowsItPro has posted an article with a workaround for Vista upgrade.

To make this simple…. if you upgrade to Vista from your Windows Xp, you wil never be able to use your Xp key again.

Microsoft they are being very “lovely” this time… if you can catch my drift.

So what’s this workaround?

1. Boot with the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD.

2. Click “Install Now.”

3. Do not enter a Product Key When prompted.

4. When prompted, select the Vista product edition that you do have.

6. Install Vista normally.

7. Once the install is complete, restart the DVD-based Setup from within Windows Vista. Perform an in-place upgrade. 8. Enter your Product Key when prompted.

You should check out also the article from DailyTech for more information on how to actually do it (it’s a bit more than what you see above) and they also have some screenshots posted.

That’s it!
