FeedDemon now free
According to Wired, NewsGator is now giving FeedDemon and its other news readers away for free-NewsGator Go! Mobile, Inbox for Outlook, NetNewsWire for Mac…
New Version! Top new features in FeedDemon 2.6:
- “Panic Button” – detects when you have a ton of unread items and offers to mark them (or a subset of them) as read
- Significant performance improvements
- Redesigned newspaper UI
- Significant improvements to offline reading support, including redesigned “prefetching” of feeds
- Inline page search
- Attention reporting/APML export
Up until now i have been using Great News Rss Reader, but taking that is causing me troubles sometimes, and still has some bugs, i just switched to FeedDemon, and i really like it.
Works perfect with Vista.
Enjoy it!

Thanks for pointing that out, Ajay.
BTW, it would be nice from them if they add some more and nicer reader styles.

HI Carol,
Its great to see a well appreciated software now going free. I have never used FeedDemon before but I have downloaded it and its quite nice.
I am more interested in Newsgator Go! though (which is like a mini feed demon). I am not sure if this is newly free aswell but its a great program. I just installed it on my windows mobile phone. I have tried a few RSS readers for my phone, I was using NewsCopier for quite a long while but then they decided to go pay for instead of free and I lost interest just on the principle of it. I then purchased SPB Insight which I have been using happily for a few months. However, this free Newsgator Go! has shown me how a mobile RSS reader should be and it is brilliant. Not only does it seperate the feed entries for a feed by days, but the best feature is that one I want to view a whole post on the internet it will open up internet explorer using Sqweezer which is a website which formats pages for mobile phones. You can change sqweezer option to use google mobile format pages instead, which is what I have done.
This is particularly useful for websites like Gamespot and Eurogamer who despite pleas from me, have failed to implement mobile pages properly and who insist on trying to display the full proper page on a mobile - for those who pay for their data by the megabyte this can prove costly.
So a big thankyou to you. I shall do a mini review of it later and ping back to you.

Couple of things I do not like about this feed demon. Firstly I cannot seem to find a way for it to start when windows starts and to start minimised. With my other RSS reader I could do this. I know I could put it in the startup folder, but I prefer control in the individual programs.
Secondly, and most importantly, I cannot see an option to choose browser. Firefox is my default browser and everything on my PC that uses a browser accepts that, and opens Firefox. Feed Demon seems to only allow me to have Internet Explorer and ignores the fact that Firefox is my default.

Becky, thanks for the comments reviews you’ve just made.
As always, you’re to the point.
Now, i agree that it doesn’t have a startup feature, but for now you can fix that in the regitry by yourself, adding the follwing to the startup:
“C:\program files\feeddemon\feeddemon.exe /minimize” or whatever directory you have it installed into.
This will startup FeedDemon with Windows and bring it down to the tray.
Your second point can be solved by going to Tools/Options/Browsing in FeedDemon and from there unmark the first 4 and mark “Open new browser windows as tabs” option.
That will fix it.
Cheers!
