GoldenDict is an open source dictionary. At first, you might think that it’s just another dictionary, but you couldn’t be more wrong.
To begin with, it supports multiple dictionary file formats such as: Babylon .BGL files, StarDict .ifo/.dict./.idx/.syn, Dictd .index/.dict(.dz) , and a few more, plus online references.
No other dictionary i used before has been build like that.
How does it work?
After the installation, you need to visit the Dictionary page.
From there on you can download and add dictionaries you need from Babylon, StarDict and ABBYY Lingvo.
I own a copy of Babylon and i could just copy and paste all the files i needed from Babylon’s files folder to a GoldenDict folder.
You can install all kinds of dictionary and references, from languages to advanced thesauruses and encyclopedias.
Create a folder called “Dictionaries” in the program files folder of GoldenDict and put everything in there.
Once you’re done, go into “Edit”, “Dictionaries” and then under “Files”, add the path to your newly created “Dictionary” folder. Click on “Rescan now”. Done!
Now, let’s say you don’t want to type in a word every time you need to know what it means. With it’s Scan Popup feature, you won’t have to worry about that.
Assign a key to it in the Preferences – CTRL or ALT for example – and when you will need to use it, just hold down the key and hoover the mouse over the word you need to have translated and there’s your translation.
Follow the link below to see some screenshots.
GoldenDict is available for 32-bit Windows and 32-bit x86 Linux.

The only CD pack i have been blogging about so far was the PortableApps pack, so i have decided to list the other ones as well.
It might help others to find them all in one place.
Our first CD is Software for Starving Students.
It includes a free collection of software such as a fully-featured office suite, a cutting-edge web browser, multi-media packages, academic tools, utilities and more.
There are actually 2 CD’s : One for Windows users and one for Mac users.

Our second CD is OpenCd.
It contains free and Open Source software such as word processing, presentations, e-mail, web browsing, web design, and image manipulation, etc.
