Best freeware and open source
Please visit the Windows XP Best Freeware page, for a complete list.
At the moment, this page can’t be displayed completely because of a memory issue on my server.
I will try to get this fixed as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience.

About
Now that is a long list. A couple other good ones are Comodo (antivirus, spyware, firewall, backup), Hamachi (virtual LAN), and DVD Decryptor (to get at the dvd’s that want to be difficult).
And thanks for your post on my blog by the way!
Ahhh!I see you got here too.The first one to comment on it.
I had some bad experiences with Comodo but i suppose it could go on the list.
It needs a remake and i am actually working to add some more stuff.
Thanks for the comment.
I had problems with Comodo’s firewall but they have since updated and fixed the problems they had. I have tried alot of other firewalls out there but Comodo is now the best. The one thing that I can say about Comodo that you can’t say about any other is that they respond to problems and and fix them. ZA and Kerio don’t. Check out the forum you be surprised. http://forums.comodo.com/
Thank you Fred for this information.
I haven’t tried yet Comodo. So far i am stuck with ZA Security Suite and everytime i try upgrading it i get in troubles.Very buggy.
I have heard good things about Comodo though.
Great list . . .the problem for everyday folks is how and when to use these tools! I’m working on solving that problem for classroom teachers. Suggestions are welcome!

Great list! I’m glad to know that I’m currently using some of the best listed already and plan on checking out a few of your recommendations!
Great list! But I am missing SiteAdvisor. This free program helps to protect your PC by giving a warning in Google search for websites that contain viruses or trojans; siteadvisor.com
I am surprised and distressed to encounter a blog that has such a restrictive prohibition against copying. It seems to be contrary to the spirit of open source.
A response by e-mail would be welcome, but I don’t intend to re-visit this blog. There are plenty of other resources about open source, where there is no prohibition against copying or otherwise using the material.
Please, so feel free to visit any web site you want and don’t stress yourself about my personal things.
In case you didn’t noticed, i promote those software…but my web site isn’t open source.
Even if it was, i would still like when my entries are copied, to be asked for a permission and not be passed on as someone else’s work.
It’s only polite and decent.
That’s not how open source works anyway.
Have fun surfing.
I noticed you have Envisioneer Express 3.0 in your list of freeware/open source programs. However, I just visited the website for this program, and it does not appear to be free at all; it appears to be time-limited trial ware.
Chris, i assure you that what i have downloaded and installed on my PC is Envisioneer Express freeware .
Maybe they changed it in the mean time.
Try downloading it from Freewarefiles.com. That’s a direct link to Envisioneer.
BTW, it says on the web site, right under it that it’s free.
Curious if you’ve looked at Logmein? It’s free remote desktop access (basically the same thing as Gotomypc). I don’t know if it officially counts as freeware, but they definitely have a free version.
Envisioneer 3.0. is comercial, the express version is freeeware and can be downloaded from their site. However I found it to be heavey on resources.
Two good programs I found, one is a skype kiler called ooVoo
It is free and does six way video chat.
The other is Gigatribe
with this you can share out folders over the internet and control who has access to those folders and what they can view in them.
